Ishkur's Guide to Electronic Music

If you've never heard of Ishkur's Guide , it's a comprehensive guide to how the various genres and styles of electronic music branched off of each other and new ones came along. Recently it relaunched with a completely new, streamlined design. And under Synthpop it has Burgundy Years and The Tick To...

Re: People Like Me by Joy Electric (French compilation song)

Celluloide. Back when I used to listen to Pandora they often came up on the Joy Electric station; they also did the remix of "Frivolity and Its Necessities" for Their Variables.

Re: People Like Me by Joy Electric (French compilation song)

I love it! The original is great too but JE's cover would have fit perfectly in the Cubist album.

Re: New “Chorus Noel EP”

I like it; the title track sounds a lot like Dwarf Mountain Alphabet with the multi-tracked vocals!

Re: JE Website on the Wayback Machine

The Wayback Machine is great! It's how I found that there was maybe only 1 JE show in Denver: "Vision Fest" in September 1999, 6 years before I even heard of him. I'm actually kind of jealous that there used to be t-shirts available for purchase. I've searched the whole internet and can't ...

Re: Synthesizer Discussion

Even though I've wanted a Moog Prodigy since...well, since seeing Ronnie play one in the Burgundy Years video, and pictured on Robot Rock. Nothing to do with the sound, I just wanted it based on looks and the fact that Ronnie had it. There's a Prodigy on eBay currently going for a little over $305!

Cascading Slopes

Looked up these guys on a whim a while ago and I gotta say I like them. Walls of epic synth in the vein of JMJ or Vangelis meet JE's evocative song writing.
Here's their song "Wild Geese."

Re: Collections

Christiansongs (which I happened to find at a Goodwill next to the church I grew up in), Picturebook, Their Variables, & Curiosities and Such are the only physical JE media I own; I also have 2 shirts and I used to have the posters for the latter 2 CDs I mentioned. I have been trying to build a ...

Re: Said Fantasy "Chariot of God" Discussion Thread

So far I can say that I prefer the original versions of the first two songs, especially Ice Blankets the Landscape. Hearing Ronnie sing much lower than he usually does works in the more mellow songs like Creatures of All Tongues and Her Solitary Migration but feels awkward for the rest of them. It'l...
